Better with fluctuation or not?

I have not been reading the newspaper or watching the news and yes, one day if the world is at an end or if there are zombies taking over the world, I would be blissfully unaware .. well .. that is until something nasty happens.

A few years ago, back home in Malaysia, I found reading the newspaper depressing because nearly everyday the headlines would be about a child being raped and killed, and children abused and raped by family members so I quit reading the newspaper. The news on TV wasn't any better so I quit that too.

Recently, after coming to Canada, I did do some reading and watching the news on TV but it didn't last long, the interest petered out.

Sometimes my father from back home would keep me updated on the latest news, of course he would sprinkle it with some of his humour. Things seem to have gone up in price since I left Malaysia in mid-2006. Some of them are essentials like sugar, flour and let's not forget gas.

When I came to Canada, I found the gas pricing quite amusing, it dance to the tune of how much crude oil or gasoline is available globally and the effect is immediate. It's like the prices can be different in the morning, afternoon and at night. Besides that, prices also vary from region to region depending on taxes and other expenses. Determining Fuel Prices: Fuel Focus.

Back home in Malaysia, we didn't have to deal with the everyday changes in price of fuel. I would either hear rumours of an increase in the fuel of prices from my friends (sometimes get them through text messages) or I would see a long line of cars waiting to have their tanks filled full before the new price was implemented. Sometimes I wonder, does it make a difference whether you filled it tonight or tomorrow with the new price? Nah, for me, it isn't worth waiting.

Well, back home, when the price goes up, it remains the same until there is another increase, it doesn't go down, not like here, where it goes up and down and so on. So, I don't know, is it better that way?

We don't go out a lot so sometimes Anderson waits for the price to go down before he fills up the gas. Sometimes it's a matter of waiting for a price which is reasonable, not that we are waiting for a REALLY low price, just one that is acceptable within our budget and sometimes traveling from here to Surrey or any other we do see differences or similarities in prices and make a choice from there, not that we go to different places on purpose just to get a lesser price.
