Organ donation phobia after X-Files

I was just recalling a conversation I had with Anderson yesterday, hmm .. was it yesterday ... well, we had the conversation. We were talking about if one of us was in some sort of coma or brain dead situation. He asked me what I wanted to do then. Well, I told him it was totally up to him what he wanted to do, whether he wanted to pull the plug and donate my organs or whatever. I don't think at this point I am going to sign up to donate my organs anytime soon. Not selfish, just that after watching a rerun of X-Files recently, it kind of put both of us off the subject.

I believe it was one of the episodes during the 9 season (Anderson and I have been watching the whole thing again from season 1), the season where we have Agent Doggett and Agent Reyes occupying main spots in the series with an occasional appearance of Agent Scully. In this particular episode, Agent Reyes was involved in an accident and although she was not seriously injured, she ended up in a comatose state and since there was no brain activity, presumed to be brain dead. Of course, there is sure to be something amiss and supernatural going on here. It is revealed that Agent Reyes soul is still around and stuck in a sort of weird miniature hospital built by a flower delivery attendant there who is sort of mentally challenged. Doggett is the only one who refuses to give up on Reyes while Scully tries to convince him to do otherwise.

Anyway to cut a long story short, since Reyes had signed up for organ donation, the doctors are all lined up outside the door to start carving her up to harvest her organs. Horrors! It seems like there is no way Doggett is going to be able to save her as her parents are on their way to be present at the event of them pulling the plug on Reyes.

It's scary, isn't it? How do we know when we are really dead? Who's going to bring the news to the living that the soul has already severed ties with the body which is being kept alive by a machine? Oh, wait, when does the soul leave the body, when the body is dead or when it is presumed dead? There are so many stories done about people/doctors harvesting organs (even from living people) and some who is this case was a doctor who was putting people under so that their organs could be donated. This is surely another case of evil clowns.

Well, another reason why I would leave it up to Anderson would be that when he is ready to let go, then he would make his decision on what to do.
