Cake Decorating on the Menu I covered the top with white fondant and the second one with pink. I lined up medium and small sized hearts on the side and we made daisies to go around the bottom of the top cake. Oh oh, the top seems bare. Since we had time, Jocelyn taught me how to do a bear and there they are, hers and mine sitting on top of the cake. Here it is:
Here are the two guys again, a bigger view this time :P
The one with the baseball cap is mine, looking a bit weird leaning to one side. I was thinking of going on to the next course creating gum paste flowers but I thought maybe a break would be great and so I decided I would probably sign up in the fall under my instructor again. And that's not all! I was so intrigued by the process of making the little bears that I came home and went online to find out more of it and before you know it I started making more 3D figures. Here is my very first one based on a tutorial for making faces by Lorraine McKay.
How small is she? Well, she is sitting on a styrofoam cup. My husband felt it weird having a little doll with no proper feet so later I coloured on some shoes for her. I made it for my husband and here he is with her:
I got caught up in it and I made another girl figure based on one done by Lorraine McKay. I think she is simply superb and you should really check out her website: Extra Icing on the Cake. I really love her wedding cake figures.
From here it went on to animal figures and objects. I will put them up for display later. Due to this fascination with making these sugar paste figures, I have created a section on my website dedicated to them and cake decorating under Cake Decor.
