Gum paste Chrysanthemum Fairy

Yesterday, Anderson installed the program so I can download the pictures from the camera whenever I want instead of depending on when he has time. So today, I tried it out myself and here I am, with another post.

I always had something for fairies and elves. I wanted to try making a gum paste fairy with wings and all that. At first, I was trying to make the legs following the picture I found of a fairy lying on her front with legs behind at an angle. The legs worked out but attaching it to her butt was a different thing. I think I went through 3 pairs of legs which included trying to have her in a sitting position on a flower instead. Maybe it was my inpatience but they didn't work out either.

Finally I worked on having her on her knees in a Japanese sitting position. Well, that worked, then I added her butt and her torso. This time I allowed some time for drying so the gum paste wouldn't crack if I tried to press forward and add more stuff. The torso did kind of start to lean a bit but with a little bit of tweaking, it managed to stay in the position I wanted.

While waiting for that to dry, I started on a flower, a chrysanthemum which may look like a sunflower :P

For the gum paste chrysanthemums, I used the daisy cutter for the petals, three using the big one and one with the medium sized one. For the middle, I used a ball of gum paste and just cut into it using a scissors(used my kitchen scissors as it was the only one available). It turned out pretty good but I wasn't too sure whether it was a sunflower or a chrysanthemum, maybe I can just say it is a hybrid. Then I added some leaves. I didn't have any veining mould and I wasn't exactly very good in doing any veins so I am too happy with the leaves.

Next I went ahead and did a smaller one, one which the little fairy would be holding in her hands. I used the medium and small daisy cutters for this. I had a bit of a time trying to tease the petals in as they keep trying to flop out. I put in a little blob of dark coloured gum paste as well.

Well, that's done with the flowers and now I am moving on to the fairy and that would be in the next post.
